“Mr Alhourani’s Dead Man’s Spots” by DM Lee was an absolute treat for me. From the first page I realised that I had found a literary home for the next few hundred pages. “

“The book it is funny and entertaining, has several good plotlines, is at times sad and philosophical and leaves you with a warm and good feeling in the end.”

Can a person’s desire to improve the lives of those around them - through simple acts of generosity - really make a difference?

Set in London, Mr Alhourani's Dead Man's Spots is a tale of unexpected friendships, love, loneliness and loyalty. Annie Grimes is in search of a more fulfilling life. She knows that if you want the extra-ordinary you have got to be willing to forsake the ordinary. However, work gets in her way when she is faced with a demanding boss, Geraldine Hall, who runs the Golden Dawn Care Home with greater consideration for targets than the feelings of those in her care.

With work preventing her from developing the life she really craves, she begins to feel down. As Annie battles with loneliness and her busy schedule, Mr Alhourani, her landlord, tries his best to keep her spirits high and health in good check. He is a man with a social conscience and an uncanny knack for saying things that most people wouldn’t put into words. Possessing a deep love of London, he does his best to open Annie’s eyes to the history and brilliance of the city that has become her new home.

However, when a chance meeting and the offer of a lucrative job comes Annie’s way, she questions her motivation and begins to wonder whether money is more important than loyalty and the desire to help others. Is fighting someone else's battle more important than protecting yourself?

When it comes to love, how can you get someone to shut their mouth and open their eyes to what is staring them in the face? Even with the best intentions and an open heart we can all end up lonely and loveless.

As everything begins to fall down around her, will Annie suddenly find out that in love, in life and in loneliness you may be surprised by those who really care.

I loved this story!

A lovely storyline with just the right mix of narrative and dialogue to build appealing relationships and characters and paint an often humorous picture, a touch of conflict leading to a feel good resolution and strong engaging characters both good and bad, I chuckled my way through the story far too quickly.

Mr Alhourani Dead Man Spots edition by DM Lee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book was a lot of fun to read. Lee weaves together a number of different threads into a single narrative that is interesting and engaging. The threads are pretty different, so we get to enjoy the variety, but Lee keeps them all working toward the main narrative arc. There is a lot said in here about good and bad ways people can live their lives, but that doesn't end up getting in the way of a good story.
Mr Alhourani’s Dead Man’s Spots is an entertaining book that makes you smile. The book sheds light on different concepts of love and friendship that leaves you with a warm feeling in the end.
It’s written from the point of view of the young and lovely but naive girl Annie who has recently moved to London. She finds a friend in the Indian shop owner Mr Alhourani who makes her get to know the city. Annie works in an old peoples’ home and makes good money in a kind of sideline. This peculiar job was offered her by a famous handsome charmer she almost killed with a car that was given to her by an elderly couple that has truly been in love for many decades. Annie has not found the love of her life yet but she is sick of spending the evenings alone. It takes her some time to figure out with whom she wants to share a bag of crisps and a bottle of Cuvée.
There is just a little detail that I did not like about the book – namely that the main character Annie sometimes speaks of herself in the third person. But this is just my opinion! ☺
When I first got the book, I did not expect to love it. I thought I was about to read some crime story about a dead man, but I was wrong. I really can't remember when was the last time I was that wrong.

It is a remarkable story about love, friendship and everyday battles that we all have. The story has several really interesting plot lines, and from the first few pages I fell in love with this book. There is just the right amount of both narrative and dialogue for my taste, and the story is philosophical and humorous. It is thoughtful and entertaining, and it took me only about a day to read it. I can't help but to see this book as a London itself. There are so many different people living in this big and culturally diverse city , but something always brings them together.

Mr Alhourani is someone I didn't expect to love so much. He is an Indian shop owner, and the way he treats people is extraordinary. I wish I had Mr Alhourani in my life. I couldn't help but to portrait him as a good spirit sent to help Annie. After you discover what the `DEAD MAN'S SPOTS' really are, you are going to be glad I didn't tell you in this review.

This is the book that will make you think about people surrounding you, and it will make you see that love, honesty and true friendships are the only things that matter in life. It will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy after you read it.

I can only advise you to buy this book, read it, and let the book do the rest. Believe me, after you finish it you'll be buying a copy for everyone you ever cared for, and you'll be talking about this book to everyone you know.

Thank you Mr Lee for sending me a copy, and I can't wait to read the next production of your brilliant mind.
